SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS:

2/1 LPC (2 over 1 left purl cross) – Slip next 2 sts to cable needle and hold in front, p1, then k2 from cable needle.

2/1 RPC (2 over 1 right purl cross) – Slip next st to cable needle and hold in back, k2, then p1 from cable needle.

2/2 LC (2 over 2 left cross) – Slip next 2 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k2, then k2 from cable needle.

2/2 RC (2 over 2 right cross) – Slip next 2 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k2, then k2 from cable needle.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE:

Wrap and turn – On right side rows, wrap the next stitch by slipping the next stitch purlwise, bring yarn to front between stitches, slip the same stitch back to the left needle and turn, then work back to the beginning of the row. On wrong side rows, wrap the next stitch by bringing the yarn to the front between sts, slip the next stitch purlwise, bring yarn to back between stitches, then slip the same stitch back to left needle and turn.

NOTES: This vest is begun by working back and forth over the entire body, then divided to work each side of the front and backs separately. The shoulders are joined using 3-Needle Bind Off.

Longer circular needles are used to accommodate the number of stitches for most of the knitting. Do not join to work in the round unless instructed to do so.

Stitch markers are used to indicate beginning of rounds for armhole edging; slip markers as you come to them. You may also find it helpful to use markers to denote the end of each 28-stitch repeat until the 24-row repeat of the cable pattern has been worked at least once.
