Notes. Only right side rows are charted. For all wrong side rows, k4, purl to last 4 stitches, k4. The triangular sections (Chart A), and the beginning of the column sections (Chart B), are shaped by increases that have no corresponding decreases. On the charts these increases are in red.

Begin shawl. Leaving a 12” tail, temporarily cast on 11 stitches. Set up: Row 1: K4, (k1, yo, k1) in next stitch, k1, (k1, yo, k1) in next stitch, k4. Row 2: k4, p7, k4. Row 3: k4, kf&b, k1, kf&b, k1, kf&b, k1, kf&b, k4. Row 4: k4, (place marker, p2, place marker, p1) 3X, place marker, p2, place marker, k4.

Begin charts. Keeping the first and last 4 stitches of the shawl in garter stitch, work across the charts as follows, Chart B, A, B, A, B, A, B. Work to row 52. Row 53, k3, remove marker, k2tog. Work across shawl removing markers as you come to them. At the end of the last repeat of Chart B, ssk, k3. Work 5 rows of garter stitch and bind off as follows: K1, slip that stitch back onto the left needle, k2tog. *k1, slip 2 stitches back onto the left needle, k2tog.* Repeat to the end. Cut the yarn leaving a 6” tail. Weave in all the ends, but do not cut them until after shawl is blocked.

Take out the temporary cast on and using the 12” tail, graft the 4 border stitches together. Put the last 3 stitches on a needle and make a centered double decrease. Weave in this end.

To block, soak the shawl in tepid water. Roll up in a couple of towels and squeeze out as much water as you can. Do not wring the shawl. Spread it out on a dry towel and pin it out to dry.
