Who is this book for?

In Toe-Warming Afghans you’ll learn how to create an afghan with a clever pocket to keep your feet warm. Author Michele Maks includes eye-catching designs for five great projects using this “better mousetrap” technique.

What Yarns does it Feature?

All projects use Red Heart Super Saver yarn. This medium weight 100% acrylic yarn has been a favorite of crocheters for over 70 years. It’s available in over 100 easy care machine washable and dryable colors, prints and variegated combinations. With this many choices, you won’t have to worry about finding a substitute.

What’s Inside?

Inside you’ll find instructions for a Hudson Bay “point” blanket, a Guernsey stitch lap robe, and blankets of stunning color in stripes, color blocks, or a flower square motif. These cozy lap robes are great for game day, sitting by the fire, or wrapping someone you love in a warm hug. Double or triple the fun with a few simple color changes. Substitute team colors in the stripes or the famous Hudson Bay blanket for a cozy stadium blanket to thrill every fan on your gift list. Imagine a lap robe of holiday color blocks keeping your toes warm as you wait up for Santa. There are enough ideas in this book to keep you busy all year long.

Using It

This colorful photographs show toe-warming afghans in all kinds of uses: at the stadium, sitting on the porch on a cool spring evening, enjoying an autumn bonfire, watching TV with a bowl of popcorn, or enjoying a good book. These precise photos are large enough to be a helpful aid to the instructions, diagrams and pattern notes. The instructions are clearly written, and there is a comprehensive stitch guide in the appendix. Further help is available online.

Best Pattern (or Best Advice)

Instructions for making toe-warming pockets make this book worth the purchase price. This clever innovation will keep out the chill. The toe pocket provides lots of room for wrapping up without stretching the afghan out of shape or – worse yet – putting feet through the afghan. The pocket in the toe-warmer covers the legs and the feet, keeping out chill air whether in a stadium or just snuggling up.

Recommendation

This book is well worth exploring for crocheters of all skill levels. The beginning crocheter can start with the relatively simple Hudson Bay blanket. You’ll learn how to do the “toe trick” and can then move on to master more challenging stitches and construction methods. More experienced crocheters will enjoy the range of complexity in the stitch and use of color in this clever book. These patterns are suitable for men, women and kids of all ages.
