Who is this book for?

Rib It Up features 25 designs for the home, all knit in variations of the rib stitch. Do you test several versions of a recipe before settling on the “best” one? Do you find an author you like, then go back and read every book he/she published? Do you indulge in film festivals watching every movie in which your currently favorite actor/actress played a role? Then this book is for you. Expand your knitting repertoire as you dive into the rib stitch and all its delightful manifestations.

What Yarns does it Feature?

There are multitudes of alluring cotton yarns available in colors that will match any taste or décor, so why not try them out and make something useful at the same time? Use the ideas in Rib It Up to knit customized accents for your dining room, kitchen, or bath. These projects all use medium weight cotton yarns. Larger projects like the home décor pillows, throws and the slip stitch rug use quick to finish bulky weight yarns.

What’s Inside?

An appealing two-page photo spread displays the finished projects in all their colorful variety. Afghans, pillows, placemats, rugs, coasters and cozies, table runners and towels are included in this project book. The appendix includes basic stitch guides, a glossary of abbreviations and a helpful summary of yarn categories. The projects are all rated easy or intermediate. Use the projects in this book for indolent summer knitting – they’re easy, quick and use those lovely cotton yarns that are readily available now.

Using It

The standard pattern format is easy to follow and easy to read. Simple considerations by the editors like plenty of white space, plain typefaces in large size font, and well-placed bold headers make these patterns easy to follow. The full color illustrations help you visualize the finished project. If you are tailoring the instructions to fit your own decorating scheme, you’ll be changing colors in nearly every pattern, and the clear photographs of finished items will help you decide on yarn substitutions.

Best Pattern

I love having an absorbent “bar wipe” at hand in the kitchen and this book has two patterns: the wavy rib hand towel and the mock cable rib hand towel. Both are constructed with a handy button loop to hang over a drawer pull. You know you love having these wipes ready for your dripping hands. Placemats are a simple way to dress up your table. The two options presented in Rib It Up will make any meal special, and you can knit them to match your décor or in seasonal themed colors.

Recommendation

There are lots of ideas for practical and useful items packed into this tiny book. Stock up on some of those delicious cotton yarns and Rib It Up.
