Who is this book for?

Teva Durham is an innovative designer of knit and crochet fashions that challenge assumptions about construction, technique and style. Loop-d-Loop Lace: More than 30 Novel Lace Designs for Knitters is the eagerly awaited sequel to Loop-d-Loop Knit and Loop-d-Loop Crochet. It is filled with stylish and exciting concepts for lace knitters. From the cover shrug all the way through to the chunky hat and ascot scarf on the back cover, this book is filled with creative ideas that startle, charm and please.

What Yarn Does it Feature?

In Teva Durham’s eyes, lace is everywhere and any fiber or yarn can be used to knit lace. Her explorative designs use lace weight and fingering yarns in traditional shawls, slips and camisoles. Other designs are worked with bulky yarns on large needles to create a bold statement in lace. Teva Durham's designs are edgy and urban with an organic, knitterly twist. Teva has a passion for bulky yarns, big needles and yarns with dimension and body. The Loop-d-Loop collection delivers gorgeous yarns suited to Teva's sculptural styles and your own creative explorations.

What's Inside

A former editor at Vogue Knitting, Teva Durham’s cutting edge designs challenge knitters to think differently about what they knit and how they wear it. You might be content just gazing at this beautiful book, but the lace soon demands your attention. More than thirty designs are modeled in striking fashion sets shot against neutral backgrounds. The knitting is often the only color on the page, making a strong statement. Who could ignore knee socks worn as leggings with a silk mini skirt and tank finished off with a lace belt in the most traditional of all lace patterns, old shale? The combination of color, fiber, texture and line focus attention on the ensemble. It may not be a style choice for every knitter, but no doubt every knitter will think differently about lace knitting after seeing the extraordinary layouts in this book.

Using It

Projects are scaled from easy to advanced, and all are intriguing to lace knitters. Each project is accompanied by an artist’s statement informing readers of key design elements and the sources of Teva’s inspiration. Pattern directions are accompanied by notes on construction, standard instructions and knitter’s choice of working the lace from charts or line-by-line directions. Swatch photos show the pattern stitches close-up and in good detail, essential for checking against test swatches. For example, the Sunray Medallion Tunic is project that’s rated as intermediate. Lace medallions form the front and back of this hip-length tunic. Ribbed side panels shape the medallions to the body, and sleeves are worked from the shoulder to the cuff. A lacy peplum is picked up and worked down to finish it with flair.

Best Advice

Teva Durham provides challenge, inspiration, and a fresh look at fashion. She points a way for knitters who love lace but want to expand outside the bounds of scarves and shawls. The message in this book is to experiment with gauge, yarn, and scale. Knit something fabulous and wear it with flair.

Recommendation

Loop-d-Loop Lace is not a book for faint-hearted knitters. The aesthetics, shapes, and designs in this book are eye-opening and challenging to rigid thoughts about knitted lace and fashion. Like haute couture, not every idea is for everyday Main Street, but these cutting edge designs are inspiring and thought-provoking. Adventurous knitters can use this book to explore the possibilities of knitting lace.

Overall Recommendation overall 9

This book is a must-have for knitters who want to push the envelope and experiment with lace. Loop-d-Loop Lace earns a #9 rating.
