Who is this Product for?

The Knit Kit is a handy all-in-one gadget for knitters reminiscent of the Leatherman multi-purpose tools that men favor because of their ready-for-anything utility.  The Knit Kit is a handy all purpose gadget meant for knitters on the go as well as those who often find themselves fishing around their knitting nests for misplaced scissors, tape measure or stitch markers.

What are its Features?

The size of a compact, this pink trimmed ivory plastic kit will fit into your purse or knitting tote.  In it you will find all the tools you could possibly need in one convenient gadget.  There is a row/stitch counter, retractable tape measure, cutter, “emergency” crochet hook and secret back pocket with room for stitch markers, tip protectors and collapsible scissors.  The pocket is roomy enough to stash a darning needle and/or a few coilless safety pins.   Use the grommet to attach a lanyard if you prefer wearing the kit around your neck.  You might prefer to add a fancy tassel to personalize your kit, or use a reel clip to attach it to the zipper tab of your favorite knitting bag.

What’s Inside?

The Knit Kit is functional and nicely designed.  Its slim profile, oval shape, and pale pink accessories and trim are very pleasing to the eye.  The self locking 60-inch tape measure and pulls out from the side and snaps back into place with a push of a button.  Rows and stitches can be counted off at the click of a button, up to 99.  The count can be reset manually using a dial, so you can count up or down as needed.  A locking mechanism keeps the count accurate and you won’t have to worry about the count changing because the Knit Kit is bouncing around in your knitting bag.   On one side of the gadget, you can extend the tiniest of blades, sufficient for cutting strands of yarn, but not large enough to warrant seizure by airport security staff.  A curved crochet hook snaps into the opposite side of the Knit Kit.  Although this is a short hook, it is just right for the occasional emergency rescue of slipped stitches or as a stand-in for a cable needle, and it a good addition to the kit.  Flip the kit over and open the back pocket to find a set of point protectors, collapsible scissors and stitch markers.  The pocket is deep enough to add a few other items of your choosing.

Using It

This is the perfect tool for on the go knitters who find themselves stymied because they forgot to pack a tape measure or lost the stitch markers. It eliminates a number of separate tools, so that all you need remember is to drop the Knit Kit in your bag.

Best Feature

The row/stitch counter is particularly useful for the travelling knitter.  If you have ever tried to keep track of paper, pencil, and your knitting in a car, train or airplane seat, you will appreciate this handy device that records the count with a simple click and security lock.  If you use a lanyard to wear the kit around your neck you won’t have to put down your knitting.

Recommendation

Those who want to simplify and reduce the contents of their knitting bag should consider using the Knit Kit.  It is compact and ready to go – no more last minute scurrying around looking for tools.

Overall Recommendation Overall 8

The Knit Kit combines several useful features into one handy gadget.  It is well constructed and has room to add a few extra items in the back pocket.  Add it to your wish list or indulge yourself; this gadget will please most knitters.  I rate it an “8” – you can still knit without it, but you’ll be glad you have the Knit Kit when you dig into your knitting bag and find one, not several tools.
