The Look

Eco Cotton is a companion to Debbie Bliss’ popular Eco Baby. Like its lighter weight relative, Eco Cotton is so satiny smooth that you have to remind yourself that it’s cotton. The premier yarn in the new Debbie Bliss Fair Trade Collection, Eco Cotton is designated organically grown cotton because no toxic chemicals or pesticides were used in growing, harvesting or dyeing this premium fiber. Eco Cotton will not irritate sensitive skin and it’s a good choice for babies. Spun by the finest mills in Italy, Eco Cotton meets the demanding quality standards set by Debbie Bliss. The deeply saturated dye is softly reflected off the smooth surface of the yarn. You’ll look radiant and vibrant in anything knit or crocheted with this sensational yarn.

The Feel 7

Smooth and soft, Eco Cotton ranks at 7 on the softness scale. It will be soft and comfortable for baby or you.

The Patterns

Debbie Bliss is a much-published designer and author, with over 35 books, 20 pattern booklets and her own magazine. You can even follow her on Facebook. With this kind of productivity, there is no shortage of patterns for her signature line. Whether you are looking for a baby project, a bright summer cardigan or something more practical like a tote bag, Debbie has designs on hand. Eco Cotton is worked at a medium gauge (18 stitches over 4 inches), and can be used as a stand-in in many traditional patterns calling for “worsted weight” yarn.

Color Range

Debbie Bliss is particular about every aspect of yarns in her siganture collection, including the color palette. The 24 colors of Eco Cotton span all seasons. Most noticeably, you will be impressed by the luster of this fine yarn, which gives the colors a lively and energetic look.

Working It

Eco Cotton is another exceptionally well crafted yarn from Debbie Bliss, and the quality is noticeable. It knits easily; for medium weight cotton, Eco Cotton is very easy on the hands. The fine plies add body without weight. This resiliency means that the knitting is soft, pliable and retains its shape. There is a simple pleasure in working with fine quality materials, and Eco Cotton is one of those pleasures.

Cotton DK PatternWhat I’d Like to Make with It

This handsome Guernsey style bag is knit of Eco Cotton and is sized to hold a boatload of gear for just about any need (finished size is 12.5 x 16.25"). Blocking It

Lay flat to dry. Do not put in a dryer or use heat.

Washing It

Hand wash using small quantities of mild soap. May be dry cleaned.

Wearability

Yarn manufactured to the high standards demanded by Debbie Bliss can be expected to stand up to use, and Eco Cotton meets those expectations. While not a “Consumer Reports” test situation, this knitter is satisfied with the performance of Eco Cotton.

Overall Recommendation overall 10

We are lucky to be living in a “Golden Age” of knitting with easy access to wonderful yarns, tools and pattern designs. Take advantage of one of the premiere yarns of this age and try Eco Cotton. It rates a 10.
